Sen. Tim Johnson’s press secretary, Todd Deutsch, notified reporters today that he is leaving Johnson’s staff to join newly elected Sen. Heidi Heitkamp. Deutsch will be working for his home-state senator, and he will be serving under Chief of Staff Tessa Gould, also a North Dakotan who was former Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin’s chief of staff.
Is Deutsch’s departure another signal that Johnson is set to retire?
National Journal yesterday had an interesting article posing the same question, this time based off of Johnson’s decision not to sign a letter to the Obama administration asking it to give its OK to the Keystone XL pipeline. Read it here.
