NoDak’s Heitkamp a good choice to speak at McGovern Dinner
Democrats looking for a keynote speaker at their McGovern Dinner this year might try to lure Heidi Heitkamp to do the honors. Heitkamp, the senator from North Dakota, pulled off an upset victory in November in a race many Republicans figured as a sure thing.
Since Heitkamp’s chief of staff is the former chief of staff to Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get the new senator to South Dakota.
The Heitkamp model for victory will be one that Democrats here try to copy in the event Tim Johnson does not run for re-election. So she would be a natural keynote speaker for the McGovern Dinner event.
And since this will be the first McGovern Dinner since George McGovern died, I’m sure the party will have a nice tribute for McGovern.
