Poll: Herseth Sandlin current Senate favorite for Dems

Public Policy Polling has released a new poll on the landscape for the 2014 U.S. Senate race. Take a look here.

Former Gov. Mike Rounds appears to be a formidable candidate.

Sen. Tim Johnson’s approval rating, meanwhile, is only at 44 percent with 45 percent disapproving. It’s another indication that Johnson is done.

Here’s what I consider to be the most surprising result:

Herseth Sandlin is the strong favorite of Democrats to be their candidate if Johnson decides not to run again. 68% say she would be their choice compared to 16% who prefer US Attorney Brendan Johnson. The younger Johnson currently has 42% name recognition and would trail Noem by 12 points at 49/37 and Rounds by 21 points at 53/32 in hypothetical contests.
