The American Banker is reporting today that Sen. Tim Johnson will make a decision on whether to run again next week. The banking community has a lot of interest, given Johnson’s chairmanship over the Senate Banking Committee.
It would seem a logical time. Congress will start its Easter recess next week and Johnson will presumably be back in South Dakota, where he would want to announce whether he’s running or retiring.
It comes shortly after a poll showing former Gov. Mike Rounds with a lead for the 2014 contest.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is on the hunt to replace Johnson, should he not run again. The committee doesn’t have a big field of names to play with.
